RiffTrax Live: Miami Connection VOD Available for Pre-Order

RiffTrax has made the video-on-demand option for their October 2015 Live Show of Miami Connection available for pre-order on their website. The title will be released on December 1, two days before, Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny, will be in theaters nationwide. Tickets available at Fathom Events.

Miami Connection is the story of a band of orphans who stick together through a code of friendship, integrity, honesty and loyalty, who also play music that was meant for kids and who are also way into martial arts for some reason. It was the third in their "The Crappening" series of 2015 live shows, the first being The Room and the second being Sharknado 2.

RiffTrax Offers Pre-Order for "The Wizard"

After a week of not-quite-subtly hinting at the identity of an upcoming riff, RiffTrax has offered a pre-order option for the long awaited riff of the 1989 cult film "The Wizard," starring Fred Savage and prominently featuring the legendary Power Glove for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The film itself is widely regarded as one of the worst films ever made.

For years, this film along with Super Mario Bros. have been among the most desired and requested films for Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett to take on under the RiffTrax banner. It had long been expected that it would have been part of the team's "blockbuster MP3 commentary phase," but when the focus of the company shifted from blockbusters to licensed B-movie Video-on-Demand titles, hope began to slowly wane that either film would get riffed, as licensing either film for VOD was seen among fans as an impossible task.

That is until March 2014 when Super Mario Bros. was released as a video on demand title. Since then, fans have patiently (and in some cases, not so patiently) for The Wizard to receive the same treatment. This week, that patience (or lack thereof) has been rewarded.

RiffTrax to Retain Current Lineup of Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy & Bill Corbett

On a day when the movie riffing world was turned joyously upside down by Joel Hodgson's announcement of a Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival, accompanied by an incredibly ambitious Kickstarter Campaign, RiffTrax confirms that their principal lineup of Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, will remain unchanged. In short, RiffTrax is going to keep being the same RiffTrax we all know and love.

MST3K Revival and the Future of the Storybook Series

So, like many MSTies, I woke up this morning to the news that Joel Hodgson is relaunching Mystery Science Theater 3000 with an all new cast and a highly ambitious Kickstarter campaign.

Now, obviously, I couldn't be happier that Joel is reviving the best show in the history of television for a new generation to enjoy. But it has raised some issues in regards to the Mystery Science Storybook series (yes, there will be another one,) particularly with the title of the series and/or forthcoming volumes. Before any problems arise, I have decided to announce that further books in the series will not be titled "Mystery Science Storybook" out of respect for Joel and all who are working on the new show. The original book will continue to keep it's original title, but I simply don't feel comfortable with publishing an entire series that bears, in part, the name of an active franchise. Not only would it be in poor taste for me to do so, it would open me up to legal problems that I just don't want to deal with.

So from here on out, new Storybook volumes will be styled thusly "[Whatever] [Whatever] Storybook." But don't worry, the basic premise of doing bedtime tales based on the worst movies ever, and drawing from the MST3K and RiffTrax libraries for inspiration, remains unchanged. In fact, this gives us the opportunity to try some different things with the series that maybe we wouldn't be able to do before because of the title. But one step at a time...
